Anthony Meehan BSc (Hons) MSCP HPC
Anthony started his career within the fitness industry and worked as a personal trainer for a wide variety of clients from elite sportsmen and women to GP referrals for late phase post surgical rehabilitation as well as healthy lifestyle programmes. He always had a keen interest in musculoskeletal dysfunction and prevention of injury which fuelled his desire to pursue a career within physiotherapy. Since qualifying as a physiotherapist from Keele University, Anthony has developed an interest in manual therapy techniques such as myofascial release and deep tissue mobilisation & massage. In addition to working at Physio Art Anthony works as a physio for Birminghan Roeheath Athletics Club, and has a keen interest in treating running related injuries.
Anthony is also a keen sportsmen himself, and has competed in a variety of sports such as athletics (400m runner), triathlon, and indoor cross training events such as the ultrafit challenge. Anthony is always striving for new ways to challenge himself both physically and mentally, and in 2006 he completed the Ironman triathlon in Lanzarote.
Anthony has personally experienced the frustration of acute and chronic injury, and together with his background of high level training he has all the skills required to understand and effectively manage patients with musculo-skeletal dysfunction and sports injury.
Gareth Stephens BSc (Hons), MSc, MCSP SRP
Gareth qualified from the University of Coventry 2001 and now has 10 years of clinical experience. He has worked for the NHS at Birmingham Heartlands and Solihull Hospitals; the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and also in community NHS Trusts. Gareth's commitment to his work has motivated him to complete an MSc at Birmingham University where he achieved distinction and membership to the Manipulative Association of Chartered Physiotherapists. His success at the University has now lead him to work as a guest lecturer for the Birmingham University where he has delivered lectures on 'spinal manipulation' and 'dynamic control of the spine'. Gareth is also a qualified member of the British Medical Acupuncture Society and has 5 years experience in this field. He has a clinical interest in chronic low back pain which was the topic of his recent dissertation for which he achieved a distinction.
Outside of work, Gareth is a keen footballer and runner and a member of Sparkhill Harriers running club. He thoroughly enjoys his work and feels he now has the scientific and practical knowledge in combination with the clinical experience; to help rehabilitate patients with musculoskeletal injuries and assist them in achieving their goals. |
